Peter Binose: Does the ULP represent a clear and present danger to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines?

The leaders of the ruling Unity Labour Party are ‘cynical and reckless’ and their actions represent ‘a clear and present danger’ to the country”.

“Vincentians should therefore begin to think and look beyond Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves for leadership of the State”.

“Gonsalves and his team are guilty of nothing short of political treason”.

“The ULP looks at all of SVG’s problems in political rather than human terms”.

“The country would have been in a better position if the ULP placed country above self and people before politics”.

Those sentiments belonged to Jomo ‘Turncoat’ Thomas when he made them in a 2009 televised address. At that time he was General Secretary of a fledgling party ‘Peoples Movement for Change [PMC]. Of course since then he was bought by Gonsalves and is now saying the same things word for word about Arnhim Eustace and the NDP. As a ULP Senator, Deputy Speaker of the House and sitting on one or two quangos at the request of the ‘worthless dirty dog’ [WDD] he must beg for his dinner and keep his little mouth zipped. [worthless dirty dog is a name that Gonsalves calls some people who oppose him, so I have reversed the role so as he is the ‘worthless dirty dog’, disrespectful? sure, but you need to address him about that]

But those original words of Thomas may never be closer to the truth than they are today when it was recently realized the kind of strangle hold Gonsalves has got on the police. WDD has managed to politicize the top people throughout the police force. He has control of the Chief of Police [COP] insisting that he turn up at ULP party rallies dressed like a circus clown in a bright red suit with white stars. The spectacle performance was at the ULP’s 21st birthday bash when the COP made the four finger signage continuously throughout the evening, that sign for those who do not know refers to the ULP winning the fourth election in a row. I am told it is not the first time the COP has worn the suit he has been seen at several ULP functions and rallies in; I am also told sometimes he insists on wearing it to bed whilst staring at a large framed photo of WDD on the wall. I am sure Lenin would approve of the successful brain washing and conversion of this man into a political zealot and ULP fanatic. Having said that, this is most certainly not a man who is fit to be Chief of Police, or chief of anything come to that, other than perhaps the chief of the Ralph Gonsalves fan club.

But worse than the COP being an ex WDD bodyguard, he is obviously an idiot albeit a fanatical fool which makes him dangerous. The Officer in charge of the Special Branch [SB, Secret Police] is an ex Gonsalves bodyguard, the officer in charge of the Special Services Unit [SSU or Black Squad] is an ex Gonsalves bodyguard, the officer of the Rapid Response Unit [RRU, Military Jungle Warfare Attired] is an ex Gonsalves bodyguard and it is said that most of the other officers above sergeant are chosen from Gonsalves own constituency. All of those men have been brainwashed and may be a distinct danger to democracy in SVG.

The SSU and the RRU are the sections of the police force who guard the polling stations and collect all the voting boxes and take them where they can be opened and counted. Because all these sections of the force have been politicized I for one no longer trust them to do that, because who is watching them, who is to accompany them when they transport the voting boxes?

When you link all that to the public assumption [rightly or wrongly] that WDD has political and tactical control over the Director of Public Prosecutions [DPP] we are in a lot of trouble not just as a police state takeover but a state under the control of what I used to believe was a Marxist but I now believe WDD is a fascist. Just a reminder about Colin Williams past and present; A partner in the Law Firm of Prime Minister Gonsalves, Public Relations Officer of the Unity Labour Party, Inspector St. Vincent Education [appointed under the ULP], Inspector The Offshore Finance Authority [appointed under the ULP], Unity Labour Party Senator in the House [appointed on the recommendation of PM Gonsalves], Director Public Prosecutions [current] [appointed on the recommendation of PM Gonsalves]

Gonsalves himself has faced several allegations of rape and sexual assault over the years, but none of the cases ever made it to court and one private prosecution was taken over by the director of public prosecutions (DPP) and then discontinued.

Ralph E. Gonsalves told us whilst in parliament that he sometimes tells lies, which branded him a self confessed liar. We have seen numerous lies told over the years, both in and out of parliament, they are well documented. He has been seen to make what most would describe as indecent and crude gestures. He has been and according to the DPP still stands accused of sexual misconduct by a number of women. The DPP has dismissed out of hand those other allegations, saying they are old and there is no evidence other than the word of the complainants. Gonsalves has been accused and charged with rape, he has been accused and charged with another sexual matter by a lady Canadian human rights lawyer. He has never fought to clear his name through the very court system that he is a member of, a system that he expects others to respect and render themselves up to. The Director of Public Prosecutions stepped in and applied ‘Nolle prosequi’ to the two actual charges against Gonsalves. For those of you that do not understand the term Nolle prosequi, is a legal term of art and a Latin legal phrase meaning “be unwilling to pursue”, a phrase amounting to “do not prosecute”. It was the DPP’s decision to not allow the cases against Gonsalves to continue, to discontinue them. It is his prerogative to prejudge such cases for merit and also to decide if hearing or not hearing them would be in the public interest.

Colin Williams former colleagues were dismayed when he was made DPP. On the 25th September 2003, the Bar Association issued a public release that was emphatic in its restraint: ‘The St Vincent and the Grenadines Bar Association expresses its profound dismay and concern with respect to the recent appointment of our colleague Mr. Colin Williams to act as Director of Public Prosecutions of St. Vincent and the Grenadines”

On the appointment of Colin Williams to the position of DPP I feared that PM Gonsalves, who once published that his Government was not just in office, but “in power”, would be in the position to bring pressure to bear on Colin Williams who for a number of years, served him faithfully and well in subordinate positions, what I would describe as a Gonsalves pup.

The D.P.P, though occupying a middle position in the judicial system, is empowered with astounding responsibility that is supposed to be independently discharged. Not only is the D.P.P empowered to institute and undertake criminal proceedings, but he can also take over and continue proceedings instituted by some other authorized person and, most importantly, he could “discontinue at any stage before judgment is delivered any such criminal proceedings instituted or undertaken by himself or any other person or authority”. Those powers are expressly “vested in him [the D.P.P.] to the exclusion of any other person or authority.” Furthermore, in the exercise of these powers, “the Director of Public Prosecutions shall not be subject to the direction or control of any other person or body”. Well that is his remit, but in my mind I am not sure that is the way it actually works under this regime.

A judges wife being given a high paying government job, what position did that put the judge in?

The real worry must be the upcoming elections being rigged. Voters are already being bribed under the auspices of a sham scheme which sees all sorts of building materials given away supposedly to the poor and those in need of house repair. But the ULP representatives sent out their runners asking supporters to submit lists of what they wanted no requirement to prove need. This should be a NEEMO operation if it is for a social requirement, but it is a political matter so it is administered by the ULP party representatives. They are stealing and giving away government property to encourage people to vote ULP. After the last election ballot boxes were found with voting papers in them. Then after one election a ULP senator told the Syrians that he knew how many of them voted for him. The registration of voters in new constituencies that they do not live in and past encouragement given to people to do just that by ULP agents.

If Gonsalves and the ULP are re-elected we will never be able to recover out country from the Family Dynasty that is being created without some dreadful turmoil, perhaps even resulting in brothers fighting brothers. We need to rid ourselves now of all the rot in the police force and judiciary. If it is allowed to continue we will be heading for a one party state dictatorship, and I believe we are already well on the way to that. Just his fanatical link to the Castro’s and Cuba and Venezuela has a story to tell of what the man has planned and in store for us.

When you link all that to WDD saying he is here to finish the work of Maurice Bishop. The question we must ask ourselves, does Gonsalves “Represent a Clear and Present Danger to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines”? My reply would be yes he certainly does, what do you think?
