Police have now released the name and a picture of the man who escaped from police custody. Charlton Bengar Ebanks, aged 21, escaped from his police guard at the Cayman Islands Hospital shortly after 7.00 am Thursday morning (17 November 2011) .

Ebanks had been arrested on Wednesday (16 November) in connection with a road-traffic offence and an outstanding warrant. He had been detained for treatment at the Cayman Islands Hospital overnight as a result of injuries sustained in a single vehicle road crash in West Bay on Wednesday afternoon.

Ebanks, who is described as being 5’ 11’ in height with brown eyes, dark complexion, black hair and of slim build, is not believed to be a danger to the public. However, anyone who sees this man, or knows of his present whereabouts, is urged to contact their nearest police station.

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service has launched an investigation into all of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
