Police investigate theft and damage to Tide Gauge in Cayman Brac

Shortly before 2:20PM yesterday, 18 May, officers in Cayman Brac responded to a report of damage to property and theft at Panama Canal, Creek. It was reported that the tide gauge at the location had gone offline, and when staff attended to make checks, they found that the lock on the device’s casing had been tampered with and entry had been gained into the device. The device was damaged with several wires cut. In addition, the device’s antenna, solar panel, and two marine batteries had been stolen.

The matter is currently under investigation by Cayman Brac officers. Anyone with any information on the incident or the location of the items is asked to contact the Cayman Brac Police Station at 948-0331.

In addition, the public is asked to be on the lookout for any of the items which were stolen. Photos of the items are attached. If seen, please contact 9-1-1 immediately.
