PS Audio August, 2024 Newsletter

By Paul McGowan

I hope this finds you well. It’s been a busy August for me: working on new PS Audio products (getting closer!), finishing the final book in my novel series, Eemians, writing a few stories from our 50-year history in my Paul’s Post daily emails, and fending off this year’s crop of apples and peaches from the ever-hungry bears that roam our yard.

First, the new products my engineering team and I are working on. That’s an easy one. I can’t talk about them yet! Let’s keep it to “they are very exciting and personally rewarding to work on.” Near year’s end, I’ll be able to spill the beans and let you know.

As for my action/adventure series of novels, Eemians, for those of you familiar with the three books already published, I am just finishing up the fourth and final in the series.

Eemians is the story of our past ancestors, the Eemians (a factual civilization of humans who lived 100,000 years ago), and our modern-day heroes, Sam, Julia, and their ever-faithful husky, Sky, as they risk their lives to uncover their secrets. Things get pretty wild in this fourth and final story, The Secret of Eschaton. I can’t wait to share it with you when it is published next month.

Here’s one of the ideas for the cover.

The PS Audio history series I have been writing in my Paul’s Daily Post recently covered a deep dive into the history of the Power Plant AC regenerator, one of our most unique and well known products. It’s a lengthy piece broken into 11 separate stories. You can start at the beginning by going here.

As battles go, my annual go-round with our fruit trees and neighborhood bears is becoming legendary in these parts. As some may recall after our disaster of several years ago when the bear climbed our frail peach tree and broke off its limbs, I had to put my engineering hat on to solve the problem. That resulted in my purchase and installation of an electric fence. Now, before you get all riled up over my electrocution of innocent animals, the fence only gives them a little warning tingle.

I am happy to report that, following last year’s disaster of no fruit because of an early winter storm, this year’s crop of peaches, plums, and apples was excellent and untouched by the local bears, though they were kind enough to leave their calling cards—mounds of you know what close by.  All in all, it is a great year for fruit.

Audiophile Masters 11

Jessica, Terri, Scott, and I wanted to venture into a bit of new territory when it came time to release our 11th Audiophile Masters series. Aside from working hard at honing and perfecting our recording skills, we wanted to go a slightly different musical route. Covers.

Yup, well-known songs from great artists make up this release, and you’ll be tapping your foot and turning up the volume for songs like BlackbirdWoodstockDon’t Think Twice, Cheek To Cheek, and It Don’t Mean a Thing

I gotta tell you, this is one of my all time favorite albums we’ve made. Great recordings captured live in Octave Studios in pure DSD256 with the world’s best microphones and preamps. Really good stuff that I am delighted to share with you.

Head here to taste what’s in store for you, and enjoy!

Till next month

Already, I cannot believe there are hints of leaves turning color and our tomatoes getting ready for harvest. Terri and I adore summer and tolerate winter…oh well, the seasons come and come, and we keep smiling.
