Ramoon found guilty of wounding sentenced to eight years incarceration
The jury of 5 men and 2 women found Ramoon not guilty of the more serious charge of trying to kill Lopez.
In August 2012 Ramoon stabbed Lopez about eight times outside of Archie’s Bar on Shedden Road.
Even though Toyin Salako for the Crown had argued it is common sense what a person intends to do when they keep on stabbing someone to the top part of their body, the jury took the view of defence attorney, Ben Tonner, that despite this, Ramoon didn’t actually mean to murder him.
Ramoon was taken into custody before returning to hear his sentence.
Acting Judge, Justice Malcolm Swift, sentenced Ramoon to 8 years detention at HMP Northward with 3 months removed for time in prison awaiting trial making a total of 7years 9 months. The judge also said Ramoon will have to spend at least half of his sentence behind bars before remand can be considered.
Ramoon’s attorney, Ben Tonner gave notice of appeal to the sentence.
