RCIPS cracking down on anti-social behaviour and criminal conduct
The RCIPS is concerned about the recent increase of anti-social behavior that relates to crime, underage drinking at liquor licensed premises and other offences that influence people’s lives. On the 06th June 2014 the RCIPS launched a proactive operation, and its primary focus is to prevent and detect criminal activities, traffic offences, illegal gambling and breaches by liquor licensed premises.
Between 6th and 19th June 2014, RCIPS’ officers arrested one person in possession of a large quantity of ganja with intent to supply, four other persons on suspicion of possession of ganja and one for possession of drug utensils and possession of a prohibited weapon, two arrested separately for theft of a motor vehicle – two suspected stolen motorbikes were recovered, three arrested for going equipped to steal, two arrested for DUI, one arrested for driving without insurance, sixteen persons ticketed for using a mobile telephone whilst operating a vehicle, one ticketed for using a vehicle whose tint fails to conform to the prescribed standard and seven tickets issued for other minor traffic offences.
During the operation two underage females between the ages of sixteen and seventeen were found on a liquor licensed premises on the West Bay Road. There were no evidence that they were consuming or purchasing intoxicating liquor; however, they were warned and they left the premises. The licensee of the premises will be warned for allowing persons under the age of 18 to be in a bar of a licensed premises.
The RCIPS states, our officers are extremely dedicated and committed to making our communities a safe place to live, work and visit, and we will continue to support the other operational strategies in bringing all resources to bear on tackling criminal activities and quality-of-life issues. We know; however, that we can’t do this without the help and support of the community, the media and other civic groups, and we appeal to all to continue supporting your local police and report criminal or suspicions activities.

Due to fumigation and building works of the building at Elizabethan Square (Montpelier Properties) #80 Shedden Road, where the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service Headquarters, Finance, Human Resources, Financial Crime Unit and other related offices are situated; the landlord has required for the premises to be vacated by 4:00 pm on Friday, 13th June 2014.
Occupants will not be allowed to return to the building until after proper safety assessments are completed but the expected time that personnel will be out of the building, temporarily, until further notice. However, Police HQ (Commissioners and staff), Finance and Human Resources will still be affected due to other construction works that will commence shortly thereafter.
Members of the public should note the following:
- Financial Crime Unit will be operating from the Government Administration Building on Elgin Avenue
- Finance and Human Resources will be located in a separate building on the Elizabethan Square complex (Bodden House)
- Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners of Police and their secretary will be operating from the GTPS
