RCIPS helicopter Medevacs pregnant woman in Cayman Brac, 14 June

From RCIPS

This morning (Thu), 14 June, the RCIPS Air Operations Unit deployed to conduct an emergency air lift of a pregnant woman from Faith Hospital in Cayman Brac to Grand Cayman. The woman, a local resident, had entered premature labour the previous evening, 13 June, and doctors assessed that the child was preterm and would require immediate neonatal support after birth, which would only be available at the Cayman Islands Hospital.

However, the helicopter crew was unable to deploy that evening due to restricted visibility and the weather at that time. The woman’s condition remained stable overnight, the need for neonatal support for the child remained urgent.  The helicopter crew then deployed at 5AM to carry out a critical care escort.

The woman arrived at Owen Roberts International and was transferred to the EMT ground crew for transportation to the Cayman Islands Hospital at about 8:30 am this morning.  This morning the baby was delivered and the hospital reports that the mother and baby are doing well.
