Fresh off its big move into India, streaming music service Rdio has announced an expansion to 24 new markets across the Caribbean, Central America and Asia Pacific. This rapid growth spurt, being done in close partnership with mobile network Digicel, means Rdio now has a footprint in 85 total countries and territories.
Rdio Officially Launches in India
As part of the expansion, Rdio will work exclusively with Digicel to offer mobile customers 30 minutes of free Internet radio listening on their phones without using data. In addition, Digicel will handle Rdio’s sales and marketing in each region, and the two will collaborate on localized content and will develop a pay structure for users.
“Launching Rdio in each of these markets is a huge milestone for the company,” said Anthony Bay, CEO of Rdio. “We are excited to bring the vibrant music of these regions onto Rdio for the world to hear while also providing users in each new market access to international artists. Digicel will be instrumental in shaping the streaming experience locally and we look forward to a continued fruitful partnership with them.”
