Learning valuable life skills, practicing good morals and high standards of conduct are just some of the attributes of a Cadet Corps member.

The Cayman Islands Cadet Corps is looking for new recruits between the ages 11 – 16, to join the Band Detachment or Marine Detachment.

An agency under the Ministry of Health, Environment, Youth, Sports and Culture, The Corps is designed to teach high school students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, and personal responsibility. It also instils in them a sense of accomplishment, self-esteem, teamwork and self-discipline.

The wholesome programme achieves these objectives through challenging, military-style activities that include drilling, field craft and adventure, navigation, first-aid, competition shooting, physical and leadership training, music and band to water-based activities among other subjects. Members are provided with vocational training and the opportunity to obtain Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) Qualifications (Level 2 – 3 are equivalent to O’Levels and A’Levels) in Public Service and Music.

Recruitment for February 2013 takes place from 7 – 25 January. Applications received after Friday, 25 January will be processed for April’s recruitment period.
