Reducing Regional Risk -GIS Spotlight

The week starting Monday, 6 August, GIS Spotlight focuses on risk reduction, and then revisits farm production and genealogy in the Cayman Islands.

Small islands are especially vulnerable to natural hazards and climate change impacts. Now efforts are underway to better prepare them to address potential risk and exposure. First, we stop at a workshop on a regional risk reduction initiative that Cayman hosted for English and Dutch overseas countries and territories.

Join us to learn how R3i, a EU-funded, UNDP-run initiative is gearing these nations to reduce risk with comprehensive disaster management. Hear from experts about the benefits to Cayman from this preparation.

Next, it’s off to Cayman’s farms. Follow the Agriculture Minister’s advice and become part of the Islands’ backyard garden brigade to eat and live healthy. Learn from produce, cattle and poultry farmers about the lucrative aspects of farming in the Islands.

Finally, we show you how to travel back in time to trace your ancestry. Join us at the National Archive where rich wealth is available for Caymanians who want to establish their family trees. See how the helpful staff at the Archive can assist you in your quest.

Produced by GIS Marketing and Communications, GIS Spotlight highlights government’s services and solutions regarding issues that concern and affect you.

The weekly programme airs Mondays on Cayman27 at 8 p.m. and on Saturdays at 6 p.m.

All stories seen in the week’s GIS Spotlight can also be found on the GIS Marketing and Communications website: www.gis.ky.
