Regional disaster management and climate change addressed at workshop in Cuba
HAVANA, Cuba — Disaster risk management, climate change, and regional ecosystems and communities were addressed by Caribbean experts gathered in Havana during a workshop on these issues.
The event opened last Monday with a question-and-answer session aimed at considering comprehensive actions related to the environment, technology, infrastructure, the economy, society, in an effort to prevent and reduce the impact of natural phenomena.
On Wednesday, Leika Power, from Jamaica; Alexandra Destin, from Haiti; and Suzanne Russel, from The Bahamas, were the experts who outlined the lessons learned in previous meetings.
Also addressing participants were Nikolaus Pieter from Guyana, Lloyd Patrick from Trinidad and Tobago and other experts from the region, ACN reported last week.
The workshop ran until Friday with the participation of officials from the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
The gathering took place following the passage through the region by hurricanes Irma and Maria, which left considerable damage in several Caribbean islands.
