MIDDLEBURY — Spotty Dog Rescue will bring adoptable dogs to the Woodbury Earth Day Celebration, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Hollow Park.

Spotty Dog is a non-profit organization founded in September 2012 by Dawn DeSantis as a “borderless” organization, with up to 50 percent of its rescues coming from partnerships in the Cayman Islands and St. Thomas.

These small islands lack effective spay and neuter programs and that, coupled with the limited number of potential homes, leads to high euthanasia rates and countless adoptable dogs being destroyed each year.

The organization provides safe harbor, medical care and love for adoptable dogs that have been abused, abandoned and neglected, until they are placed into loving permanent homes.

Part of Spotty Dog’s work has been to change perception about so-called aggressive breeds. Pounds are often filled with pitbulls and pit mixes.Although the vast majority of these dogs make wonderful, devoted pets, the reality is that they sit for a long time before the right family comes along to adopt them.

All adoptable dogs through Spotty Dog Rescue are in foster homes, which allows the dog to adjust to a home setting, socialize with people and other animals and receive constant care.

SDR provides for all needs, including food, crates, vetting and medications. Fosters may commit to keeping the dog until they have been adopted or for a shorter duration.

Those wishing to volunteer or to become a foster care provider may call 203-441-4260 or go to www.spottydogrescue.org.
