Retiring Senior Customs Officer William Watson has received high praise for his commitment and dedication over 33 years in government service.

At an event at Customs headquarters earlier this month to celebrate his contributions to the department and its customers, Mr. Watson was also lauded for using his considerable technical and automotive expertise on government’s behalf.

Senior officials also acknowledged his willingness to step in on days off as well as his continuous service on airport night shifts.

During a recent incident on his day off, Mr. Watson’s knowledge of the Customs Law ensured that government earned the correct revenue on a questionable shipment of imported goods.

Speakers led by Deputy Governor, Hon. Franz Manderson included Financial Secretary Kenneth Jefferson, Customs Collector Charles Clifford, Deputy Collector Collie Powery, Assistant Collectors Gidget Powell, Philip West and Kevin Walton, Customs Officer Vennie Vernon and Customs HR Manager Simone Mamby.

Collector Clifford thanked Mr. Watson for his long and dedicated service to the Cayman Islands Government and the Customs Department in particular as he wished him all the very best on his well deserved retirement.

They had one final message for Mr. Watson, as Mr. Powery said: “You will be missed. It was a blessing to have you work with us.”

Mr. Watson received a plaque as well as tokens of appreciation. His colleagues also expressed their appreciation and gratitude on a giant card.
