Roger J. Piggott, (an ordained street minister) scattered the remains of Farron Tilly, an Army Veteran from Fort Drum, NY who succumbed to suicide along with William G. Davis a National Guard from Vincent, Alabama. Roger also carried the remains of a Canadian friend, Gina Spencer who lost the battel after a lengthy bout of depression and substance abuse. Their remains were laid to rest on September 8th, with the Patriot Guard and American Legion Riders at Kingman, AZ on Route 66 at the Bikers Memorial at Sitgreaves Pass.
Advocates and veteran groups from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to Las Vegas, Nevada gathered along the way to show support to the national severity of PTSD, substance abuse, mental health, and suicide pandemic. Military and veteran related riding groups also gathered at the various media stops to escort the 26-city motorcycle ride across the USA.
RIDE for LIFE conveyed a strong message of hope to the veterans and other marginalized people who suffer with mental illness, PTSD, and thoughts of Suicide. These television specials will focus on the current pandemic of SUICIDE among Veterans, First Responders, Teens, Homeless, Native Americans, and Addicts. The television specials created from the 5,000-mile ride will serve as a promotional vehicle to direct the depressed and distraught to counseling and treatment resources, while providing awareness to the 988 National Suicide Helpline Number and the veteran related services. Roger states, “He made the case for those affected … To Make the Call.”
