Rihanna ditches Instagram over nudity issue
CALIFORNIA, United States, Friday May 23, 2014 – Barbados’ pop princess Rihanna has given the photo sharing site Instagram the boot, and for the time being is confining her social media life to her Twitter and Facebook accounts.
According to an E! News report, the “Unapologetic” girl has confirmed that she ditched Instagram following a spat over photographs she posted to her account – with its more than 12 million followers – last month.
The Instagram affair started after the 26-year-old superstar posted topless and bottomless images from her cover shoot with French magazine LUI.
But while the Rihanna-in-the-raw photographs proved to be a big hit with fans, not everyone shared their enthusiasm.
Celebrity website TMZ reported that the photo sharing site suspended her account because the pictures contravened its ban on nudity, partial nudity, or sexually suggestive photographs.
As Instagram’s community guidelines state: “If you wouldn’t show the photo or video you are thinking about uploading to a child, or your boss, or your parents, you probably shouldn’t share it on Instagram. The same rule applies to your profile photo.
“Accounts found sharing nudity or mature content will be disabled and your access to Instagram may be discontinued.”
No problem for the “Good Girl Gone Bad,” who simply posted the pictures to her Twitter account, following up with a doctored photo depicting a matronly image of herself captioned: “Rih’s next magazine cover if it was up to Instagram.”
BET subsequently reported that Instagram denied they nixed the account because of the explicit flicks, instead blaming human error.
“We briefly disabled the account by mistake and restored it quickly,” rep Alison Schumer said.
In a further twist, a counterfeit account “BADGALRIRI_AGAIN” appeared on Instagram, attracting 47,000 followers.
The “Stay” singer lost no time in taking to her Twitter page to dismiss the belief that she was back on Instagram.
“#PHAKE!!!! Let’s be clear, I do NOT have an IG account,” Rihanna wrote in a caption underneath an image of the imposter account.
Meanwhile, Rihanna’s official Instagram page is blank with two simple messages: “User not found” and “No posts yet.”
