Rio de Janeiro Olympics organizers still struggling with unpaid bills
Four months after the closing ceremonies of the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero, the organizers are still having problems paying off their bills including the $3.7 million owe to the International Paralympic Committee, according to CBS News.
IPS spokesman said that the money is owed for travel grants part of the contractual agreement to host the Olympics and Paralympics.
“Never have we faced an issue like this with an organizing committee being so late paying travel grants,” said Spence. “Some of our smaller national Paralympic committees, who took out loans to pay for their travel for the Games, are now in serious danger of defaulting on their repayments.”
Rio organizers have already been late in paying hundreds to creditors and contract employees on top of cash-flow problems, budget cuts, and excessive costs that dodged the beginning of the games.
The International Olympic Committee described the Rio games as “the most perfect, imperfect games.”
