Rivers to hold meeting with her constituents to discuss PPM offer. McKeeva set to be opposition leader
The offer was made to her by PPM leader and Cayman’s next premier, Alden McLaughlin, last Saturday (25) but she had said she would only accept if at least one more cabinet position was offered to the C4C.
Rivers has now decided to hold a meeting at the John A Cumber Primary School in West Bay Monday (27) evening at 7pm to speak with the district about the offer made to her.
Although the independent elected members have all said they would not be part of any United Democratic Party (UDP) Bush led government none of them have made any objections yet to McKeeva Bush’s claim to be Leader of the Opposition.
Under the constitution, it is the leader of the largest party that is expected to take up that position, which points to the former premier and leader of the UDP.
Therefore, unless all the independents join forces, they are going to be led by McKeeva Bush. Their only other alternative is to do what Juliana O’Connor-Connolly has done and offer their support to the PPM’s.
