UPDATE: Robbery at Cayman Islands Tortuga Rum Company

At 11:30pm Thursday 30th October 2014, two men were arrested following the robbery at the North Sound Road, Tortuga Rum Store earlier that night. The accused persons age 35 yr. and 34 yr. respectively are residents of Bodden Town and George Town. The accused persons remain in police custody. Detectives from Drugs and Serious Crime Task Force (DSCTF) are investigating this matter.

This evening at 5:51 pm, 911 received a report of a robbery at the Tortuga Rum Company, North Sound Way. A 62-year-old male employee of the Company had arrived at the North Sound Way location from a Tortuga store at the Royal Watler location driving one of the Company’s van. As he drove into the Company’s car park, a white Nissan Sunny drove in behind him. As he was about to exit the van, two male passengers of the Nissan Sunny approached him whilst the driver of the Nissan Sunny remained in the vehicle. Each of them were armed with machetes; they threatened him with the machetes and demanded cash. They reached into the van and removed a bag containing a substantial amount of cash and made their escape in the Nissan Sunny.
The two males who approached the van are described as dark skin, and they had their faces covered. The driver of the Nissan Sunny was of a light complexion.
No one was physically injured.
Anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the robbery, or who may have information that could assist the investigators are asked to contact Detective Inspector Joseph Wright at 949-7710 of the Serious Crime Task Force or Crime Stoppers on 800 8477(TIPS).
6 Burglaries reported
Six Burglaries were reported to RCIPS yesterday morning, Thursday 30th October 2014 within the same location. The commercial burglaries at Cayman Centre on Airport Road saw several glass openings being smashed to gain entry through doors or windows.
The affected properties were Cinico, Caribbean Network Solutions, IATA Travel, Mr. Burger, US Link and Mechanical Solutions. Very little was stolen from the premises and it would appear that the culprit(s) were looking for cash. The burglaries were committed between the hours of midnight and 6am.
Detectives from GTPS – CID are investigating these matters and anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers.
