ROBERT C. YOUNG

What a joyous occasion it must have been

At the dock in George Town – just imagine the scene.

As excited church members stood all around

Eagerly awaiting the arrival of Robert C. Young.

They had no idea on the looks of this young man

Who had left his home in Scotland to come to Grand Cayman.

Having volunteered his services as a missionary

The Church of Scotland soon appointed him to serve overseas.

Can you imagine crossing the mighty Atlantic in 1907?

That ocean voyage I bet was anything but heaven

And at the age of twenty-five Rev. Young was very brave

To travel such a distance to an unknown place.

This young man ministered to us for years I’m told

He preached to all his charges and served the young and old

A great love he had for the people of Cayman

He knew from the time he landed that Cayman was grand.

Whilst ministering here he met the love of his life

A beautiful Caymanian girl whom he took as his wife

After several years of service they left the Cayman Islands

Living and serving in Jamaica and other distant land.

He loved writing and was editor of the Church’s monthly paper

He was also appointed to Synod as their Moderator.

Robert Young so helpful and sympathetic to everyone

Will always be remembered for a job well done.

So this church stands as a memorial to Robert Young today

If he could see it, I wonder what he’d say?

Five years after his passing it was dedicated

And fifty years later Robert Young’s name is still appreciated.
