ROK Government to provide humanitarian assistance worth US$550,000 to Caribbean countries hit by hurricanes
- The government of the Republic of Korea will provide humanitarian assistance worth US$550,000 to four Caribbean countries (Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Antigua and Barbuda) affected by a series of hurricanes that recently hit the Caribbean coastal areas.
o Hurricanes Irma, Maria and Nate have caused huge loss of human lives and property in the countries. The ROK government will provide US$300,000 to Cuba, US$100,000 to the Dominican Republic, US$100,000 to Nicaragua, and US$50,000 to Antigua and Barbuda, taking into account the scale of the damage, and the request for support from the international community, including relevant international organizations.
- The humanitarian assistance is expected to contribute to restoring the affected regions and bringing stability to the lives of the people of the four countries, who are still experiencing difficulties due to the damage from the hurricanes.
- The government of the ROK, as a responsible middle-power country in the international community, will continue to expand humanitarian assistance to join the efforts of countries affected by natural disasters and their people to recover from the damage.
