Rugby: South Panthers beat Cayman Islands
The South Panthers have taken a step forward in their move for the Rugby Americas North Championship with a 39-5 win over the Cayman Islands. With the services of some experienced players, like World Cup vet Phil Thiel, the Panthers had little difficulty beating the Cayman Islands at Life University. The Panthers went up 3-0 early before adding a try. The Cayman Islands scored their only points around the same time to make it 8-5. From there the South slowly added to lead to make it 15-5, 22-5, 29-5, 34-5, and then 39-5.
With the win the South are second in their pool. Mexico beat Bermuda 59-7 to top the pool on point differential. Both Mexico and the Panthers have five points while the Cayman Islands and Bermuda have zero. Up next for the Panthers is the big match against Mexico on May 27th. The South will have to go on the road for that one. Whoever wins that match will almost certainly be the top team in the pool. The South will close out pool play against Bermuda on June 3rd.
