Running and walking down Walkers Road

The 5th Annual Breeze Fusion 2 Mile Run/Walk took place at Walkers Road – raising $1,000 for both the National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) and Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman Book Mobile.

There were a total of 79 Runners and 74 walkers taking part in the event, which included government H.E Governor Duncan Taylor, ministers Mike Adam, Mark Scotland and Rolston Anglin.

The race, organised by Breeze FM radio station and Phoenix Athletic Club, started at the intersection of Walkers Road and Denham Thompson Way. The runners started first, running along to the end of Walkers Road, where they turned right along South Church Street, with the race ending halfway down Denham Thompson Way. The walkers, who, just like the runners, were of many different ages and levels of fitness, followed a few minutes afterwards.

The beginning of the race

First over the line was Jason Saunders with a time of 11 minutes 2 seconds,  The second and third place in the male runners category went to Derek Larner with a time of 11 minutes 12 seconds and Carl Grant with a time of 11 minutes 17 seconds.

The female placed first was Imelda Clarke with a time of 12 minutes 19 seconds,  the second was Tiffany Cole, with 12 minutes 37 seconds, and the third was Amy Clarke with 13 minutes 23 seconds.

The National Council of Voluntary Organizations (NCVO), a local charity, has been the main beneficiary of the event since the first race was held in 2007. The Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman’s Book Mobile – a special trailer that acts as a kids’ mobile library, was the other charitable project to benefit.

Kiwanis members were also present to provide practical support to Phoenix Athletic Club members, and their Book Mobile was there for all to see.

All runners and walkers received a medal and a T-shirt for participating.  In addition, both runners and walkers are awarded medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Trophies were also awarded to the overall male and female winners, and there were also random prizes given to participants.
