Same sex marriage correspondence released by Cayman Islands Human Rights Commission
On 13 August 2015 a motion to retain the definition of marriage as articulated in s.2 of the Marriage Law (and s.14(1) of the Constitution) was debated in the Legislative Assembly. On 18 August 2015 the Human Rights Commission (“the Commission”) published its correspondence to the Honourable Premier concerning some of sentiments expressed and language used in the debate and made recommendations to the Government to ensure human rights for all in the Cayman Islands are protected.
The Commission has received a response from the Honourable Premier (dated 21 October 2015) to which it subsequently replied, on 16 November 2015. The Honourable Premier has acknowledged this response and, in accordance with s.116(7) of the Constitution, these additional pieces of correspondence, which are both self-explanatory, have been published by the Commission on the Commission’s website: http://www.humanrightscommission.ky/portal/page/portal/hrthome
