Second death off Pedro Castle
A body has been recovered in the water off Pedro Castle – less than a week after the death of Justin Henry in the same place.
A 21 year old, named locally as Adam Rankine, is thought to have jumped from the rocks around 4.30pm on Sunday.
Police, the marine unit, and paramedics rushed to the scene to search for the missing man.
But just after 5.30pm his body was recovered.
A spokesman for the RCIPS said: “At 4:28 pm today,911 received a report that a 21 year old male had jumped into the water from the Pedro Castle Bluffs.
“Police Aerial and Marine assets were deployed immediately and were able to recover the body of the male at 5:37 pm.
“This is the second fatality over the holidays resulting in the death of a young male. At the time of the incident the victim’s sister was also at the Pedro Castle Bluffs.”
The incident comes less than a week after the death of 16 year old Justin Henry whose body was found on the rocks in that area.
A police investigation is underway in that case and it remains unclear whether the young man jumped, fell or was pushed into the water.
A candle lit vigil in Justin’s memory was being held on Sunday evening.
