Serpell wins 2nd leg of World Jumping Challenge in Cayman Islands
From CIEF
Cayman Islands Equestrian Federation (“CIEF”) hosted Event #2 of the FEI’s World Jumping Challenge (“WJC”) at Cayman Riding School in Savannah last Sunday. In this competition, top show jumpers from across the Caribbean region compete in their own countries on their own horses, and measure themselves against each other over the same courses.
Youth Olympian bronze medal winner, Polly Serpell, took top honours on her sister’s horse, Sunday’s Edition. Serpell posted four faults in the first round and then jumped clear in the second round. Hannah Fowler and her horse, Seligkeit came in a close second, posting four faults in the first round and then also going clear in the second round. However,
Serpell was just under three second faster than Fowler to the finish line in the second round, to take the first place position.
As well as receiving an individual placing amongst riders within their country, the Cayman riders are given a ranking alongside other riders in the Caribbean region. Cayman riders’ overall placings will be known after CIEF holds the third and final event of the WJC which is scheduled for 8 November, 2015 at Cayman Riding School.
Fowler won Best Presented Horse at the Vet Jog the previous day, which was judged by local vet, Dr Charles Dickinson.
After the World Jumping Challenge, CIEF hosted open jumping classes to give riders chance to practice their jump skills in advance of the first leg of the National Jump Series to take place at the Equestrian Center on 11th October, 2015.
The competition followed a new format. In the first round, riders jumping clear progressed to a jump off, a shorter course than the first round, measured against the clock.
