Service of Appreciation
Service of Appreciation for J. Bryan Bothwell
by Colleen McGaw
Elmslie United Church was filled with friends, family and colleagues of J. Bryan Bothwell on Sunday evening. They had come to celebrate him on his retirement after more than 13 years as Regional Deputy General Secretary of the United Church of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. It was an evening of singing, music and worship featuring a combined choir, musicians from various churches, as well as participation from past and present United Church Ministers, the Moderator, the General Secretary, the Acting Regional Deputy General Secretary and the Chair of Council.
Bryan’s service, not only to the church but also to the community and business and to Cayman Prep and High School, was mentioned throughout the evening. He was recognised for his honesty, integrity, service and warmth and the way he treated everyone with a smile.

Representatives of each United Church in Cayman presented Bryan with a token of their appreciation. He also received a gift from Cayman Prep and High School and a bamboo sculpture from the Moderator. The Council presented him with a framed citation recognising his work and contribution to the United Church.
The evening culminated with a buffet dinner and a cake decorated with stain glass windows and the initials of the nine United Churches in Cayman.
We wish him well in his “retirement” and any future endeavours.
