Gunshots damaged the Velma Banks Drive, West Bay home of a police offer on Sunday morning, triggering an official investigation.

No one was hurt in the early -morning incident and no arrests have been made, but police have placed security in the area as part of their probe. A 4:30am, 22 January report described gunfire in the neighbourhood.

Subsequent inquiries revealed damage to the house, although police have declined to reveal either the address or name of the RCIPS
officer involved.

Speculation has surrounded the incident, which came on the birthday of Devon Anglin, convicted on Friday by Chief Justice Anthony Smellie of the 2009 murder of Next Level Nightclub patron Carlo Webster.

The late-afternoon decision and mandatory life sentence set off angry anti-police demonstrations and verbal abuse around the courthouse, eventually focusing on the building’s heavily guarded parking lot as Anglin was moved into a police van.

In his decision, Mr Smellie named a West Bay police officer as “crucial” to the prosecution, persuading one of two anonymous witnesses to come forward.

Anglin’s supporters, anticipating an acquittal, had hoped to celebrate the convicted man’s 26th birthday at his home this weekend.

“Security precautions have been put in place with respect to the safety of the officer and his family,” a police report said yesterday.
