Show−stopping performance from Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony nominated for GRAMMY Award

IOC

18 November 2024 –  The electrifying performance by French metal band Gojira and French-Swiss opera singer Marina Viotti at the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 has been nominated for a prestigious GRAMMY Award.

Viotti said: “I’m so honoured and proud to represent both the French metal scene and the French opera scene at the GRAMMYs with Mea Culpa! It’s our highway to heaven since the Olympics with Gojira and Victor.”

Their epic version of a French revolutionary song, entitled Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!) and composed by Victor Le Masne, saw Gojira frontman Joe Duplantier, drummer Mario Duplantier, lead guitarist Christian Andreu and bassist Jean-Michel Labadie thrill crowds from platforms extending from the Conciergerie – a former prison and courthouse that sits along the River Seine. Accompanied by Viotti onboard a wooden ship and a thrilling pyrotechnics display, the exhilarating rendition has been nominated for Best Metal Performance by the Recording Academy of the United States, which presents the annual GRAMMY Awards to recognise outstanding achievements in the music industry.

Composer Victor le Masne said: “Bringing metal for the first time to an Olympic Ceremony was something I was really proud of, but being nominated at the GRAMMY Awards along with Gojira and Marina Viotti is truly a tremendous honour.”

The group Gojira jointly stated that: “We are honoured to be nominated for a GRAMMY with the song Mea Culpa with Victor le Masne and Marina Viotti. Being part of this whole experience from the Olympic Opening Ceremony to this GRAMMY nomination is as exhilarating as it is unexpected. Thank you all for the amazing feedback and support!”

The 2025 ceremony, which will be held in Los Angeles, California, on 2 February, will be the 67th staging of the GRAMMY Awards. A full list of nominees is available at: 2025 GRAMMYs: See The OFFICIAL Full Nominations List | GRAMMY.com.
