Silver thatch for Diamond Jubilee
A fine specimen of the Cayman National Tree, the silver thatch palm, now graces the grounds of the Government Administration Building after His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE, led the planting to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on World Environment Day today (Tuesday, 5 June 2012).
Organised by the Governor’s Office staff, the event is the first for planting 600 trees in the Cayman Islands to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee – 100 for each decade of her reign.
The planting also focuses attention on Government’s “green” home during this World Environment Day, which is run by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and has as its theme this year: Green Economy: Does It Include You?
