Antigua and Barbuda’s High Commissioner to Canada Sir Ronald Sanders says even if the government of Antigua & Barbuda decides to get rid of its Citizenship by Investment Programme (CIP), it is unlikely Canada will resume its visa waiver for citizens of the twin island.

The Government of Canada ended visa-free travel for citizens of Antigua and Barbuda effective 5:30 am, June 27.

Antigua & Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne  said that this decision was linked to the controversial CIP which has come under scrutiny after several Chinese nationals succeeded in their application and credibility issues subsequently arose.

Sir Ronald says the money earned under the CIP is important to the economy of Antigua and Barbuda.

Meanwhile, the Canadian authorities say citizens of Antigua & Barbuda can apply online for a visa as of 5:30 am today, or submit a paper application in person or by mail to any Visa Application Centre.

Sir Ronald is also telling Antiguans and Barbudans what to do.
