About 1:25 pm Friday 22 February 2013 a 55 years old United States citizen visiting the island went snorkeling today off Seven Mile Beach and got into difficulties.

He was rescued and  assisted back to shore by persons who were on the beach at the time.

Paramedics arrived on  scene and CPR was done.

He  was transported to the George Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
