SOBWC-V Update: Ghana’s President will attend the State of the Black World Conference in Baltimore
President Akufo-Addo to Deliver a Major Address
Baltimore, MD – Today, Dr. Ron Daniels, President of the Institute of the Black World 21st Century (IBW), announced that His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of Ghana has confirmed his attendance at the upcoming State of the Black World Conference in Baltimore, MD, which convenes from April 19-23. “We are honored and delighted that President Akufo-Addo, one of the most influential and respected African heads of state, will participate in our 5th State of the Black World Conference,” said Dr. Daniels. “The President is slated to deliver a keynote address on the theme of the conference, ‘Global Africans Rising: Empowerment, Reparations and Healing,’” “Having President Addo of Ghana participate in the conference is particularly significant because he is rapidly emerging as the global champion for reparations among heads of state in Africa. His address to the Accra Summit on Reparations last summer was truly historic. His Keynote Address on reparations coupled with those of other heads of state and leading reparations advocates will elevate this conference to one of the most significant in the 21st century,” noted Dr. Daniels. In addition, President Akufo-Addo will receive IBW’s Pan-African Legacy Award. Also expected to participate in this historic gathering are Prime Minister of Barbados, Her Excellency Mia Mottley; Prime Minister of Grenada, His Excellency Dickon Mitchell; and Vice President of Colombia, Her Excellency Francia Marquez. They will be joined by Hon. P. J. Patterson, the former leader of Jamaica and the longest-serving Prime Minister in the Caribbean, who today is a global statesman and a staunch advocate for human rights and reparations for African people around the world. Dr. Julius Garvey, son of the Hon. Marcus Mosiah Garvey and a global Pan-African icon in his own right, is the Honorary Chairman of the Conference. The Conference will begin on April 19th with a Pan African Institute, chaired by the renowned actor/activist Danny Glover, U.N. Ambassador for the Decade for People of African Descent, where Hon. P. J. Patterson will deliver framing remarks on The State of Democracy and Development in the Caribbean and Africa. The Institute will be followed by a National/International Town Hall Meeting on The State of the Global Reparations Movement where President Akufo-Addo will make the opening Keynote Statement followed by Prime Minister Mia Mottley and Vice President Francia Marquez. The Town Hall meeting will also feature a tribute to the great Pan- African revolutionary Maurice Bishop, late Prime Minister of the People’s Revolutionary Government of Grenada, presented by the current Grenadian Prime Minister Dikon Mitchell.
