Solihull School will be aiming to represent England with pride when they compete at a prestigious international cricket competition hosted in Barbados.

The independent school for boys and girls on Warwick Road is the only school outside the Caribbean to have been invited to take part in the Sir Garfield Sobers International Cricket Tournament.

A squad of 13 players aged from 14 to 18 will be involved in the three-week tour this month for what will be Solihull School’s fourth participation in the contest.

The party will be headed by tour manager Paul Jackson and head coach David Hemp, the Bermuda international and ex-Glamorgan and Warwickshire player who is now Master in charge of Cricket at Solihull School.

Captained by Darryl Brotherhood, the squad includes Duncan Wigley and Nick Hooper who both played in the 2011 Barbados tournament, as well as Oliver Haley, who is currently a member of the Warwickshire U18 Elite Player Programme.

Fahd Janjua, the youngest member of the party at only 14, is a member of the Warwickshire U14 squad.

The team are thrilled to be representing the UK in the biggest inter-school competition in the Caribbean and are determined to do their best to lift the trophy,” Jackson said.
