Spotlight on CayFest on Film: Splice

From Cayman National Cultural Foundation

The Cayman National Cultural Foundation is delighted to announce the upcoming “Cayfest on Film: Splice” showcase, a vibrant celebration of local film talent. As part of the National Festival of the Arts, this exciting event will take place on two consecutive Sundays, March 9th and March 16th, at Camana Bay. Both days will feature a packed schedule with 50 local films and videos running from 2pm to 10pm over the two days. Admission is completely free.

The Cayfest on Film: Splice showcase offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience the diverse range of storytelling by Caymanian filmmakers and filmmakers who have created work in and for the community. The lineup includes short films, documentaries, feature films, and music videos, covering every imaginable genre.

From gripping dramas to insightful documentaries, experimental pieces and cult classic comedies, this showcase promises a dynamic exploration of art and culture in the Cayman Islands.

This year, the Curatorial Panel – Rita Estevanovich, Brittany Kelly, and Judy Singh Hurlston – selected films that explore the compelling themes of liminality and catharsis: “We are thrilled to highlight so many talents – directors, producers, actors, and everyone who makes a film come true – and make their work accessible to the public at our national festival of the arts.

Among them are Asher Lopez, Badir Awe, Bruce Gordon, Candy Whicker, Cayman Islands Government (CIG), the Cayman Islands Government Office in the UK (CIGO-UK), Department of Environment (DoE), Dimitri Rohan, Dr. Tasha Ebanks Garcia, Frank E. Flowers, Gabriella King, Garth Humphreys, Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation (GHOF), Jazz Pitcairn, Jeremy Walton, Joel Lawson, Josh Pearl, Judy Singh Hurlston, Kevin Morales, Malcolm Ellis, Matthew Seales, Matthew Stockreiter, Matthew Marley Whittaker, Michelle Morgan, Mike Coggan, Nasaria Suckoo Chollette, Peter Chamalian, Philipp Richter, Phil Eckstein, Reno Jackson, Rob Tyler, Tahiti Seymour, Tamer Soliman, Wendee Miller, and the Cayman National Cultural Foundation (CNCF), along with several musical contributions.

“It is incredibly inspiring to take in the wealth of talent and creativity in our midst, and it makes us proud to see how many others have chosen our destination to make art. These works, which delve into states of transition, transformation, possibilities for understanding and experiencing the world differently, and emotional release, will resonate deeply with both local audiences and visitors, offering a unique insight into our islands.”

Join us at Camana Bay on March 9th and 16th for an unforgettable celebration of Caymanian cinema. Mark your calendars, and don’t miss out on this extraordinary opportunity to engage with the vibrant cultural tapestry of the Cayman Islands during Cayfest 2025. The schedule for both Sundays will be available on CNCF’s social media feeds.
