St. George honours the ‘seniors’
As the “older persons” shouted out they are “Senior Citizens” as they do not consider themselves old.
Whoops. I hope the persons who chose to use “Older Persons” in their title are reading and noting this.
The seniors (aged 65 and over – although there were a few underage who naughtily got through the security at the door) were treated to a free dinner courtesy of the Anglican Youth Fellowship (AYF) who also provided the entertainment.
The three hour celebration flew by. The food was sumptuous, the entertainment was …. entertaining …. and from the very young six to the teens they sang, recited, danced and played instruments including clarinets, a flute and trumpet.
The piped music was lively ranging from calypso, reggae, rock ‘n roll (with much roll) and pop.
Older members also gave their turn at entertaining including some of the seniors and it was one of the most pleasurable evenings I have spent for a long time.
Congratulations to everyone who put on this event.
As you will note from the photographs both our publisher, Joan Wilson (who read her poem about “Ageing” (see http://www.ieyenews.com/2012/10/the-publisher-speaks-the-month-of-the-older-person/) and our Editor-in-Chief, Colin Wilson, were there. Colin won a prize, a lovely plant that he presented to Joan, for taking his shirt off! I think the prize was for actually putting it back on again!
