St George’s Easter Cantata
Along with soloists Richard De Lacey (Tenor) and Winsome Sairsingh (Soprano) from St. George’s, well known guest Baritone Rudy Myles also performed.
The Junior Choir, with pianist (and violinist) and Director Fran McConvey, performed a number of religious songs on their own including “Above All” and “El Shaddai”.
The adult Chancel Choir under the direction of Organist Denver Bloomfield performed excerpts from a much longer Cantata that opened with “That’s the Heart of God” and closed with “Come and See/Christ the Lord Is Risen Today”.
There were a number of instrumentals and Ms. Sairsingh was also the Narrator for the Cantata.
The whole of the afternoon’s performance was beautiful from both adults and children and it took many, many hours of practice.
I know as I was scheduled also to take part but illness prevented me from making my debut with the Chancel Choir.
Never-the-less I climbed out of my sick bed to hear and see the finished product.
I was most moved.
The many regular attendees at St George’s who were not present missed a most joyful experience. What shocked me was to see how very few of the children’s parents and family were present.
That filled me with tears and I am sure the children were very upset at that, too.
As for the rest of the congregation, not to support a very good choir was quite frankly appalling.
There was 24 performers and 21 persons in the audience!
It was your loss. You missed a real treat and wherever you were that afternoon could not possibly have been half as good.
I spent 14 hours of rehearsals and the rest of the choir did even more. That you couldn’t find time to spend 2 hours on Easter Sunday to witness Jesus’ suffering and His love for us all, performed by children and adults so beautifully was disgraceful and I am being mild with my words.
May this be a wake up call.
