St. Luke’s cardiologists care for Cayman Islanders

St. Lukes Hospital new heart institute

Health officials from the Cayman Islands will visit St. Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute on Friday (7) to renew the Kansas City hospital’s contract as the island’s preferred provider for cardiac care.

Since 2011, St. Luke’s has cared for 49 in-patients who traveled the 1,500 miles from the Caribbean to Kansas City for extensive care, such as angioplasty, bypass surgery or valve replacement.

The contract makes St. Luke’s the preferred cardiac care provider for more than 13,000 insured residents of the Cayman Islands.

St. Luke’s cardiologists also provide outpatient clinic care on Grand Cayman. Five staff physicians travel from Kansas City an average of four times a month for two or three days at a time, seeing as many as 100 out-patients a month.

Note: St. Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute, Kansas City was opened on October 8th 2011 as a brand new, state of the art heart facility employing 60 new doctors and surgeons, over 100 hospital beds and the latest in heart care equipment. The $330 Million dollar expansion was years in the making and has replaced the old Mid America Heart Institute, that has now become the new brain and stroke center.
