Statement by MP Joey Hew, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, on the Sargassum Invading our shoreline
While we have never seen this level of sargassum in the North Sound, we knew that this year was going to be no different from previous years, in fact this year seems to be worse. I am unaware where the responsibility now lies, whether it is with the Premier as Minister of Sustainability or with my former Ministry of Works, but either way I left the necessary plan and the equipment to quickly address the disaster we now see on our beaches.
If the Government cannot handle it, then provide the opportunity to the private sector or quickly relaunch the NICE program to clean up the worst areas, including our tourism attractions.
Calling an emergency meeting at this point is not needed….what we need now is action!”
