Statement on the Passing of Sir Shridath Ramphal From Office of Cayman Islands Premier
Premier Honourable Juliana O’Connor-Connolly today (Thursday, 5 September) issued the following statement on the passing of Sir Shridath Ramphal:
The Government of the Cayman Islands joins our neighbours across the Caribbean region and our friends throughout the Commonwealth in extending our deepest sympathies to the Government and people of the Republic of Guyana on the passing of Sir Shridath “Sonny” Ramphal.
An exemplary son of the soil, his long and illustrious career of diplomatic and public service spanned the West Indies Federation to becoming the second Secretary General of the Commonwealth and included serving the Government of Guyana and CARICOM. He worked tirelessly to promote and uplift our region.
The Caribbean has truly lost a great statesman and luminary. No doubt future generations will continue to be inspired by his exemplary life.
May his soul rest in peace.
