About 3:25 pm on Wednesday 14 January 2015 a 63 year old male US visitor was snorkeling off Morritts Beach near East End when he reportedly indicated that he had difficulty breathing. Emergency services were requested and the ambulance was dispatched. First Aid was applied to the victim until the arrival of the ambulance, which transported him to the GTH.

At 1647 hours the victim was pronounced dead at the George Town Hospital. The Joint Marine Unit is investigating.
