Swearing-In set for Wednesday (29)

150px-Coat_of_arms_of_the_Cayman_Islands.svgThe newly elected Legislature and Cabinet will take office in front of the Legislative Assembly (LA) on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 10.00 a.m.

At the start of the brief ceremony, the 18 new Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) will be sworn-in on the sidewalk of the LA building. They will then move inside to officially recommend the Premier and appoint Cabinet Ministers.

After this they will move to Fort Street, in front of the LA building, for the swearing-in of the Premier and Cabinet.

While Cayman 27 and Radio Cayman will broadcast all events live, members of the public are invited to come out to the Legislative Assembly, although there will be limited seating inside and out.

210px-Cayman_islands_legislative_assemblyLast week (Wednesday, May 22) was the first time that the Cayman Islands went to the polls to select 18 representatives. The increase in numbers was mandated by the Cayman Islands Constitution 2009. George Town now has six seats and Bodden Town four.

The remaining districts are unchanged. West Bay has four seats. Meanwhile East End and North Side have a seat each and Cayman Brac and Little Cayman have two.

To accommodate the ceremony, the following junctions will be closed from 7.00pm today (Tuesday 28 May) and will reopen following the conclusion of the event tomorrow.

•          Harbour Drive/ Fort Street.

•          Edward Street /Dr. Roy’s Drive

•          Mary Street/ Town Clock
