Tara Rivers appeal denied
At Friday’s (15) Court of Appeal the three appeal judges refused to hear the application submitted by Gordon Hewitt that Cayman’s Chief Justice ruling that Minister Tara Rivers was eligible to stand in last May’s election was wrong.
Section 66 of the Constitution says any election decision made in Grand Court shall be final and not subject to appeal.
Attorneys for Hewitt claimed the Chief Justice’s ruling was wrong because he had misinterpreted the spirit and intent of the constitution and as such misdirected himself. Therefor the Court of Appeal should hear the matter.
The Court of Appeal disagreed and the matter is now closed.
Minister Rivers was not in court and will carry on her duties as Education and Employment Minister.
