Teenager’s special gift at Christmas
Although Christmas is a time for giving, many of today’s youth seem to forget that important fact.
But not teenager Malcolm Rankin.
The 14-year-old from West Bay came to last weekend’s police organised Christmas party with different intentions.
While youngsters queued anxiously in line to collect their presents from Santa, Malcolm was there to give, not to take.
Instead of receiving gifts, he has collected all his pocket money over the past few weeks and used it to buy groceries.
And on Saturday with the help of organisers he handed over the food he brought to the party to 23-year-old mother of three Irvalyn Bush.
“I see my mother help people all year,” said Malcolm. “She’s a social worker and is forever helping people so I thought I would do the same.
“I’ve been collecting my pocket money and thought the best way to help someone at Christmas was to give something back.”
Ms Bush added: “I can’t thank Malcolm enough. I came along with my own children to see Santa and I’ve got a great gift as well thanks to his generosity.”
