News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Aug. 23, 2019: A Caribbean player has made it to the opening rounds of the U.S. Open this year. Here are 5 things to know about this player:
1: He is Darian King of Barbados who ranks at 179th.
2: King this week won his two opening matches by beating Malik Jaziri of Tunisia, 6-2,6-4 and Spanish player Adrián Menéndez Maceiras 6-1,6-4.
3: King has won 26 matches in his professional career and lost only one this year. He is a right-handed player with a double handed backhand.
4: The Bridgetown-born tennis player first Grand Slam appearance came at the 2017 US Open, where he lost to fourth seed Alexander Zverev in straight sets.
5: The 27-year-old has represented Barbados at the Davis Cup where he has a W/L record of 39–19 and at the 2016 Olympics. He is coached by Chris King.
