A report in various Caribbean news outlets, attributed to a statement made by Deputy Premier Rolston Anglin, says that the five members of the Cayman Islands minority government resigned voluntarily as members of the United Democratic Party (UDP) on Saturday (29).

The resignations came ahead of meetings of the UDP district committees to discuss the threatened expulsion of the five from the party on the grounds of “undesirable conduct” in voting to support a no confidence motion in the territory’s Legislative Assembly on December18, 2012, that removed UDP leader McKeeva Bush as premier.

An e-mail was sent by the UDP’s Bodden Town committee chair to district MLAs Mark Scotland and Dwayne Seymour last week giving the men seven days to depart of their own accord or face a hearing.

Similar requests were made to West Bay members, Rolston Anglin and Cline Glidden, plus the new premier, Cayman Brac MLA, Juliana O’Connor-Connolly.
