The death of tradeshows?

By Paul McGowan From PS Audio

With the recent cancellation of the 2020 AXPONA show, coupled with all the other cancellations, it’s clear we’ll not be getting together to play with our stereo systems en masse.

I am certain we all miss the camaraderie. To be honest, it’s being together in our big gatherings that’s interested me more than rooms filled with gear.

It’s not just audio tradeshows that have ended, but big gatherings of all types. In light of what’s at stake, it’s a smart and safe course to take. Still, this shift away from group meetings where we renew friendships and share in a common love of what we value most, HiFi and music, concerns us all. Will it ever be the same again?

Of course, the pandemic will work its way through our civilization. Cures and vaccines will be found. We’ve managed our ways through such things in the past, we’ll get through this and into the future. But, I wonder if our audio gatherings will ever be the same?

Perhaps they will be better, more valued with a greater appreciation for what many of us, including me, have for so many years, taken for granted.

Sometimes we have to lose what we have to appreciate what it all meant.
