The Editor Speaks: A refreshing Press Briefing

Colin WilsonwebIt was a refreshing change to witness the new government’s Press Briefing on Tuesday (8). There was none of the tired old swipes at the previous People’s Progressive Party Movement’s (PPM) government that had gotten the Cayman Islands into the mess we are in.

There were no tirades at the United Kingdom’s (UK) Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) for stopping the government projects that had been promised were starting in weeks but hadn’t in over three years.

There were no wild claims of conspiracies and gloved hands of persons undermining Caymanians by opposition and business leaders who were bent on power at all costs.

There was no selected only press invites.

There was no bashing at members of the press who asked questions the leader of the country didn’t like.

There were no nasty attacks and rudeness shouted at H.E. the Governor.

Juliana O’Connor-Connolly’s government Press Briefing was exactly that. It was informative and all questions were answered with candour and respect.  We learnt a lot even when it was not good.  We took the medicine and were grateful.

It was also quite refreshing.
