The Editor speaks: Dark days

Judith image From New World Encyclopedia

By Colin Wilson

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God — having a form of godliness but denying its power.

Have nothing to do with such people.

They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Also these teachers oppose the truth.

They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far, because their folly will be clear to everyone. (NIV)

IN TIMES LIKE THESE

In times like these you need a Savior,
In times like these you need an anchor;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!

This Rock is Jesus, Yes He’s the One,
This Rock is Jesus, the only One;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock
!

In times like these you need the Bible,
In times like these, O be not idle;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!

This Rock is Jesus, Yes He’s the One,
This Rock is Jesus, the only One;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock
!

In times like these I have a Savior,
In times like these I have an anchor;
I’m very sure, I’m very sure
My anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!

This Rock is Jesus, Yes He’s the One,
This Rock is Jesus, the only One;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock
!

NOTE:

I make no apologies for first posting words from Paul’s Letter to Timothy II Chapter 3 v 1-9. (paraphrased).

The second is a 1940’s hymn written by Ruth Caye Jones during World War II when Britain and her allies were suffering great losses at the hands of the Nazis and seemingly getting nowhere. There was much despair as evil was spreading like a disease across the world.

Both the above are so pertinent now. I don’t need to explain why unless you are living in another world. All those words could have been written only yesterday.

I thank Rev. Christopher Mason, Pr. of Elmslie United Memorial Church, Grand Cayman, for bringing his Message at today’s service where he highlighted both of the above.

Do not give up hope everybody. These are very dark days. In times like these we do indeed need an anchor to hold us firmly to the rock of justice and love. God is our only saviour. Believe.

I leave you with these words from The Book of Judith:

“Your strength is not in numbers, nor does your might depend upon the powerful. You are God of the lowly, helper of those of little account, supporter of the weak, protector of those in despair, savior of those without hope.”

When the Book of Judith was written there was no greater dishonor for a male than that he die at the hand of a female. Judith petitioned God to give her the strength to fight an evil man and destroy him because everyone else around her had given up hope.

God gave her strength. In times like these He will give you that, too.
