The Editor Speaks: Famous quotes on mothers
There are plenty of things to do and the commercial aspect of Mother’s Day seems to get more intense every year.
The cards get more expensive, the restaurants all have ‘special’ menus, the flower shops have “new” prices for their ‘special Mother’s Day’ arrangements, and as for all those Mother balloons and Best Mum, it is almost overwhelming.
So how about something free to give your mother……?
I have collected a number of quotes from famous people all about mothers that are freely given and I hope you can find the time to give at least one to your mum.
“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.”
― Washington Irving
“No man is poor who has a Godly mother.”
― Abraham Lincoln
“My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her.”
― George Washington
“Art is the child of nature in whom we trace the features of the mothers face.”
― Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
“The best love in the world, is the love of a man. The love of a man who came from your womb, the love of your son! I don’t have a daughter, but maybe the love of a daughter is the best, too. I am first and foremost me, but right after that, I am a mother. The best thing that I can ever be, is me. But the best gift that I will ever have, is being a mother.”
― C. JoyBell C.
“When you feel neglected, think of the female salmon, who lays 3,000,000 eggs but no one remembers her on Mother’s Day”
“I ask you, what good is a big picture window and the lavish appointments and a priceless decor in a home if there is no mother there?”
― Spencer W. Kimball
“May each of us remember this truth; ‘one cannot forget mother and remember God. One cannot remember mother and forget God.’ Why? Because these two sacred persons, God and mother, partners in creation, in love, in sacrifice, in service, are as one.”
― Thomas S. Monson
“I loved my mother too,’ I said. ‘I still do. That’s the thing – it never goes away, even if the person does.”
― Anna Carey
“God know that a mother needs fortitude and courage and tolerance and flexibility and patience and firmness and nearly every other brave aspect of the human soul.”
― Phyllis McGinley
“Behind all your stories is always your mother’s story. Because hers is where yours begin.”
― Mitch Albom
“Isn’t this the truth of any good mother? That in all of our lives. We worry only about those we brought into this world, regardless of whether they loved us back or treated us fairly or understood our shortcomings.”
― Adriana Trigiani
“Consider a small child sitting on his mother’s lap while she reads him a picture book. The picture book opens to a width that effectively places the child at the center of a closed circle – that of mother’s body, arms, and the picture book… That circle, so private and intimate, is a place apart from the demands and stresses of daily life, a sanctuary in and from which the child can explore the many worlds offered in picture books. Despite all of our society’s technological advances, it still just takes one child, one book, and one reader, to create this unique space, to work this everyday magic.”
― Martha V. Parravano
“And even if you hate her, can’t stand her, even if she’s ruining your life, there’s something about her, some romance, some power. She’s absolutely herself. No matter how hard you try, you’ll never get to her. And when she dies, the world will be flat, too simple, reasonable, fair.”
― Mona Simpson
“[Everyone needs] a woman who’ll listen, take your side, tell the truth – or not, as you need it. A woman you can count on, no matter what, and who’ll love you no matter how much you screw up.”
― Nora Roberts
AND:
“There is no one who takes care of us as lovingly as our mother does. She is our living God.”
― Mohtasham Usmani
