The Editor speaks: Friendship
A friend sent me the following informing me it was World Friendship Day and telling me the message below was written by William Shakespeare.
She was incorrect in both but it doesn’t matter because it is the thought behind it that is the key.
I was not aware of a “World Friendship Day” and that is a pity, so I thank her very much for advising me.
I discovered the actual day varies.
Wikipedia says:
“Friendship Day celebrations occur on different dates in different countries. The first World Friendship Day was proposed for 30 July in 1958, by the World Friendship Crusade. On 27 April 2011 the General Assembly of the United Nations declared 30 July as official International Friendship Day. However, some countries, including India, celebrate Friendship Day on the first Sunday of August. In Oberlin, Ohio, Friendship Day is celebrated on 8 April each year.”
Therefore, I am unofficially making today, November 21st 2018, as Cayman Islands Friendship Day.
I am also publishing the whole of the message she sent me and from what I have gleaned from my research most of it is from an unknown writer or writers and a small part is attributed to William Arthur Ward. It is the longest of any similar writing I have found, most not traceable to anyone.
As I said at the beginning of my Editorial it doesn’t matter who the authors are – it deserves to be read:
I always feel happy, You know why? Because I don’t expect anything from anyone, Expectations always hurt.
The problems are not eternal, they always have a solution, the only thing that has no cure is death.
Do not allow anyone to insult you, humiliate you or diminish your self-esteem.
Cries are the instruments of cowards, those who do not think.
We will always meet people who consider us guilty of their problems, and everyone will have what they deserve.
We must be strong and resurrect the falls that life imposes on us, to remind us that after the dark tunnel full of solitude, very good things come.
Life is short.. So love your life.. Be happy.. And Keep smiling.. Just Live for yourself and
Before you talk – Breathe
Before you speak – Listen
Before you write – Think
Before you spend – Earn
Before you pray – Forgive
Before you hurt – Feel
Before you hate – Love
Before you quit – Try
Before you die – Live
The best relationship is not that of a perfect person, but one in which each individual learns to live, with the faults of the other and admiring his qualities.
Whoever does not value what he has, one day he will complain of having lost it.
If you want to be happy – make someone happy
If you want to receive – give a little of yourself
Surround yourself with good people and be one of them.
Remember, sometimes, when you least expect it, there will be those who will make you live good experiences!
Never waste your present for a past without a future.
A strong person knows how to keep his life in order. Even with tears in his eyes he adapts with a smile : I AM GOOD.
END
And I wish each and everyone of our readers a Very Happy FRIENDSHIP DAY
